After the Dark

After The Dark is the first of it’s kind; possibly the largest projection festival to happen in Australia, compared with the likes of other various projection festivals that only cover a single street. Spanning the entire Broken Hill town, it provides visitors the very unique oppotunity immersing themselves in lights, sounds, and visuals, blending in the rich culture and heritage of this mining town. This identity is aimed at capturing the essence of projections and celebrating light.

The Logo

The Logo

Having various versions of the logo embodies the randomness, inconsistency, and imperfection of projecting images on various surfaces, celebrating the many different results of projections—that anytime an image is projected it is never the same. To genuinely embody this, all variations of the logo were created with no more than a camera and a light painting app in a dark room.

The Colours

The Colours

For projections to happen, it requires lenses, light and darkness. The colours and gradients are inspired by colours found in projector lens reflections, and the colours of dusk—the time when After The Dark begins. It is a depiction of where technology and nature meet.
